Indiana’s jobless rate in September was 2.8%, which is unchanged from August, the state Department of Workforce Development reported.
The state said the national jobless rate in September was 3.5%, down from 3.7% in August.
Indiana’s labor force participation rate was 63.4% in September and remained above the national rate of 62.3%.
Indiana’s total labor force, which includes residents employed and those seeking employment, was 3,401,036 for the month, down 707 from August.
Private sector employment in Indiana increased by 10,500 jobs the past month, translating to a gain of 93,600 jobs when compared to the same time last year.
Private employment in the state stood at 2,773,600 in September. Industries that experienced job increases in September included, leisure and hospitality (+3,300); professional and business services (+2,200); financial activities (+1,500); construction (+1,400); and private educational and health services (+1,100).
The state said as of Oct. 19, there were 143,452 open job postings throughout the state. In September, 16,537 people in Indiana received unemployment benefits.
