WASHINGTON, D.C. – John Goss, former head of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, will head the campaign to prevent Asian carp from invading the Great Lakes.
Goss, who also was executive director of the National Wildlife Federation’s Indiana affiliate, was named to the Asian carp position by President Barack Obama.
He will be responsible for coordinating efforts by federal, state and local agencies to keep bighead and silver carp from entering the Great Lakes. If the fish does get into the Great Lakes and begins breeding, scientists are afraid it could seriously damage the multi-billion dollar sport and commercial fishing industries.
