Families of with children attending Michigan City Area Schools will receive the information about programs and other district information thanks to support from the Michigan City Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber representatives recently presented Michigan City school staff with a $4,000 donation, provided through the organization’s education foundation fund. The dollars will support printing costs for the MCAS Connections newsletter, which highlights school programs and overall district progress.

The newsletter is mailed to all Michigan City postal customers and neighboring postal routes.

“We are grateful to the chamber for its contribution to this important communication tool, which highlights our progress and the many programs and opportunities that our public schools provide for our community,” said Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, MCAS superintendent. “We appreciate the chamber's continued support and involvement, which has provided student field trips and programs, internships, teacher recognition, and much more.”

The Michigan City Chamber Education Foundation Fund launched in 2003 to support Michigan City Area Schools programs not funded through tax dollars and is permanently endowed and managed by the Unity Foundation of La Porte County. Through the fund, the chamber has reinvested more than $100,000 into public education by funding more than 30 projects.
