GARY – The National League of Cities’ subgroup Women in Municipal Government has elected Gary’s 3rd District Councilwoman Mary Brown as President for 2013. It also elected Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson to its Board of Directors.

The group, meeting in Boston, also voted to host their annual summer meeting in the Gary/Chicago area in May 2013 with Councilwoman Brown as the primary host.

“I am honored to serve on this board with so many accomplished and distinguished women,” said Freeman-Wilson. “I also extend my congratulations to Councilwoman Brown whom I know will be an effective leader while shining a positive light on Gary. I look forward to working with her on the upcoming projects this spring.”

Women in Municipal Government was formed in 1974 to serve as a forum for communication and networking among women local elected officials and their colleagues within the National League of Cities.
