HAMMOND – Two notable Northwest Indiana natives will have their names enshrined on the South Shore Wall of Legends.

They are Vivian Carter, founder of Vee-Jay Records in Gary, and John Maniotes, a computer pioneer who taught at Purdue University Calumet for 38 years.

Both will be inducted at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond. They will be the 16th and 17th legends to be inducted on the wall sponsored by BP Business Whiting Unit.

The Wall of Legends was inspired by John Davies, president, Woodlands Communications Group, Valparaiso, who coordinates the project, and Stephen G. McShane, archivist/curator of the Calumet Region Archives at Indiana University Northwest.

Also at the ceremony, the recipient of the $1,000 annual Legends Scholar will be announced.

To attend, reservations are needed by Dec. 7 to Kailyn Rynberk at (219) 554-2229.
