VALPARAISO – The third annual United Way Regional Day of Caring for Lake and Porter counties will be held Aug. 27-28.

United Way is searching for small or large companies, community groups or skilled individuals who want to donate their time and talent to not-for-profit organizations.

Some 100 projects need volunteers for projects from painting playground equipment and planting flowers to packing backpacks with school supplies and teaching children how to fish.

Participants will receive a breakfast (Strongbow Inn in Porter County and Campagna Academy in Lake County) and also will receive a lunch.

The Youth Day of Caring for junior and senior high school students will be Saturday, Aug. 28, at Indiana Dunes State Park.

Last year, more than 1,800 volunteers helped 75 not-for-profit agencies and completed more than 100 projects. It is estimated that the value of those projects was $145,800.

Corporate sponsors for the event are The Post-Tribune, Radio One Communications, BP, Strongbow Inn, NIPSCO and Porter Hospital. For more information or to register, visit the Web site www.nwivolunteer.org.
