St. Mary’s receives $840,000 in grants

SOUTH BEND – St. Mary’s College has received an $840,000 grant for scholarships to students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The grant is funded by $600,000 from the National Science Foundation and $240,000 from the Henry Luce Foundation.

The grant will provide scholarships for up to 20 students enrolled at St. Mary’s beginning in 2013. It will cover four years of school for students majoring in biology, chemistry or mathematics.

Each scholarship is worth $26,500 – $6,500 for sophomores and $10,000 for juniors and seniors. The Luce Scholarship will cover tuition, fees and provide a book allowance for two years of school and is available to chemistry, mathematics and engineering students.
