St. Lawrence Seaway grain shipments increase

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The latest statistic through the end of June on the St. Lawrence Seaway show that grain shipments are up more than 20 percent.

Year-to-date shipments from March 22 to June 30 were 2.6 million metric tons, up from 2.1 million metric tons one year ago. Canadian grain shipments were up 3 percent.

Year-to-date total cargo shipments are steady with a 3.5 percent rise to 12.8 million metric tons over last year.

The biggest increase has come at the Port of Oswego in New York where the shipment of wind turbines has boosted cargo 404 percent.
