Venues Parks & Arts and city of South Bend officials will join Jenny Zimmerman, site director of First Tee Indiana-Michiana, for a ceremonial tee shot on April 18 to mark the start of the golf season and highlight 100 years of South Bend’s Studebaker Park Golf Course.
Along with the 100-year celebration, VPA will reveal details of new youth golf initiatives with First Tee Indiana-Michiana. The course is located east of Riley High School on High Street at Ewing Avenue.
“101 years ago, Studebaker Park Golf Course was used for growing crops during the (first) World War and for the past 100 years, it has been growing golfers,” said Tony Stearns, VPA’s director of golf operations, “Golf is more than a game. Golf teaches discipline, etiquette and respect for the people and spaces around us. Golf provides life-long friendships and values that go beyond the out-of-bounds stakes.”
The Studebaker family gifted Studebaker Park to the city of South Bend and plans were made to develop a municipal golf course, according to city officials.
