Updates to the VNA of Northwest Indiana’s Arthur B. and Ethel V. Horton VNA Hospice Center should be completed by November.

A statement from VNA said the center at 2404 Valparaiso St. in Valparaiso, which has housed its in-patient hospice care since 2002, is completing a $150,000 renovation to provide a comfortable, home-like environment for patients and families.

“I have always considered the VNA’s Horton hospice center to belong to the community,” said Bob Franko, president/CEO of VNA of NWI. “The community has long supported it with donations and volunteers.”

Franko said the Horton hospice center is the home to countless memories and sacred moments that families have experienced.

“We are privileged to provide this beautiful setting and will always act as the best stewards we can for its upkeep, sustainability and as a place that families can count on for excellent care and compassion,” he said.

VNA of NWI began providing in-patient hospice care more than two decades ago. Its first facility, the Mary E. Bartz VNA Hospice Center, opened in 1994 and was located in a wing at Whispering Pines Healthcare Center in Valparaiso. It was relocated in 2002 to what was then the newly constructed Arthur B. and Ethel V. Horton VNA Hospice Center.
