GARY – The 11th annual Gary South Shore Air Show will be held July 10-11, headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. The show is presented by the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority, Gary Jet Center and the City of Gary.
A special preview will be held Friday, July 9, at Marquette Park and Beach from 6 to 9 p.m. Spectators can come early to watch the Thunderbirds practice at 3:30 p.m. There is no free shuttle service or buses on Friday, but parking is available for $20 per car. The show will close Friday with fireworks, presented by Krazy Kaplan. No coolers are allowed in Marquette Park.
Special Preview Party tickets for Friday are $50 per person and include VIP parking, two drink tickets, hors d’oeuvres and an opportunity to meet the air show performers. To order tickets, visit www.garyairshow.com/previewshow.html.
Air Show hours on Saturday and Sunday are noon to 4 p.m. Parking is $20 per car.
HAMMOND – Purdue University Calumet has set up a business plan course for entrepreneurs that begins Tuesday, June 29. Other classes are on July 6 and July 13.
“Of the millions of people every year who take the challenge of opening a new business, many will fall short of the success they seek due in part to poor or no planning,” said Dushan Nikolovski, managing director of Purdue Calumet’s Center for Entrepreneurship. Nikolovski will teach the three courses.
The classes are Developing Your Idea and Company Structure on June 29, Marketing Plan and Financial Plan on July 6, and Operating Plan, Funding Opportunities and Finalizing Your Plan on July 13.

PORTAGE – A free online rock radio station, AsgardRadio.com has been launched by Jim “Slider” Harwood, a former Army specialist from Portage.
Harwood served in the Gulf War and after losing his job, decided to start the station that features music from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Also involved in the project are Will Arnchik and Peter Day, two of Harwood’s friends.
Local bands can upload their performance and on-air battles of the band are held, said Harwood. Through the station, Harwood also raises money for veterans’ causes.

MICHIGAN CITY – The Northern Indiana Human Resource Management Association’s annual fall conference, “Don’t Get Sued,” will be held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the Lubeznik Center, 101 W. Second St., Michigan City.
Guest speakers are attorney Mindy Chapman, one of the top speakers for the American Bar Association, and Craig Hickman, co-author of “The Oz Principle: Getting Results Through Individual and Organizational Accountability.”
