Purdue Calumet hosts Atlanta trip

            HAMMOND – Purdue University Calumet is organizing a trip to Atlanta Feb. 24-27 that will include visits to sites and museums recounting the social, historical, political, cultural, economic and other experiences reflecting the Civil Rights movement.

            Stops include Atlanta’s Cyclorama, a panorama of the July 24, 1864, Civil War Battle of Atlanta; Margaret Mitchell House, a turn-of-the-century, three-story Tudor revival building where she wrote her Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “Gone With the Wind”; Booker T. Washington High School, Atlanta’s first black public high school whose graduates include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Vernon Jordan, Louis Sullivan and Lena Horne; and Sweet Auburn Avenue Historic District.

            There also will be stops at Morehouse College, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, and Morris Brown College along with the Martin Luther King Jr. Historic Site.

            The trip is $575 per person and includes six meals, three-night hotel accommodations (double room occupancy) and admission to museums. Transportation will be a luxury bus equipped with monitors and a DVD/VCR player.
