SOUTH BEND – After serving our country and returning home, some veterans find themselves home-less. Many receive help from local programs to get them back on their feet. But, as they transition into their own homes, they often don’t have a bed to sleep in or table and chairs. In partnership with local veterans groups and Stand Down with a Heart, Goodwill Industries of Michiana will host a Donation Drive called: Operation 4D in honor of D-Day. Media sponsors ABC57 News and WRBR-FM / The Bear join forces to bring awareness to veteran’s needs and encourage community participation.
The drive will be on Saturday, June 10 at Goodwill Retail Stores in St. Joseph County (Indiana), Elkhart County and LaPorte County. Donations will also be accepted that day at Stand Down with a Heart in Goshen at Peddlers Village from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Furniture and household goods are the primary focus for this event; although all donations are welcome. Proceeds from the donation drive will support Goodwill’s initiatives for veterans in Michiana. In addition to gently used items, each location will accept monetary donations.
This event is one of many “Goodwill Gives” initiatives developed to support local charities. “It is a mutually beneficial program aligned with our mission to strengthen communities by empowering individuals and families through education, training and job placement. Veterans will be able to receive the assistance they need and Goodwill will create a stronger tie to the community it serves,” comments Guy Fisher, Vice President of Mission Advancement.
