SOUTH BEND – The University of Notre Dame has announced a $32 million renovation of its historic Morris Inn.

A major portion of funding for the project came from a $15 million grant from South Bend philanthropist Ernestine Raclin. Her parents, Ernest and Ella Morris, presented the initial $1 million grant that opened the Morris Inn in 1952.

The project includes demolishing the south win and replacing it with a new wing of rooms, increasing the total from 92 to 138 rooms; a new 300-seat ballroom; a covered driveway entrance; and a redesigned rear courtyard. Work on the project will begin in 2012 with completion set for the fall of 2013.
