Music industry stars lined up for May 14 ceremonial opening of Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana

There will be no shortage of star power for the grand opening of the new Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana in Gary.

A ceremonial guitar smashing to formally open the $300 million casino is set for 11:30 a.m. May 14. Among the expected celebrity musicians are members of the musical Jackson family, Tito, Jackie and Marlon; as well as Pete Wentz from Fallout Boy, and Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray. Other celebrities expected include Kym Mazelle, Crystal Taliefero, Deniece Williams, The Chi-Lites’ Marshall Thompson, and Kinsey Brothers Ken and Donald.

One of the features of the new venue is a display of the Hard Rock’s extensive collection of music memorabilia. More than 170 pieces of music memorabilia will be on display representing a wide range of genres.

The Jackson family is central to the exhibit with their connection to Gary. There are more than 30 pieces of Jackson memorabilia, including Joe Jackson’s original guitar which the site’s outdoor sign is modeled after, outfits worn on stage by the Jacksons, Michael’s red leather jacket from the Beat It video, Janet Jackson’s suit from her Velvet Rope tour and much more.

There are also objects from other artists with connections to the Jacksons – including Lady Gaga, Eddie Van Halen, Elvis Presley, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Pharrel, Shakira and Fergie. In addition to the Jackson related memorabilia are items from other Gary, Indiana music icons including Jimmy Reed, Deniece Williams, Kym Mazelle, Crystal Taliefero, and Big Daddy Kinsey.

Inside the Hard Rock Live venue is a Rock Vault exhibition space providing a tribute to the Jackson family. Each member of the family is represented with their own artifacts and stories. Guests will also learn some stories about their time inside their childhood home on 2300 Jackson St.
