Martin’s Super Markets parent SpartanNash names new finance executive

Greg Crane has been named vice president, finance – food distribution for Michigan-based SpartanNash.

Crane will serve as finance business partner to Bennett Morgan, senior vice president and chief merchandising officer, and support the food distribution leadership team.

Crane also will oversee budgeting, forecasting, monthly results analysis and risk and opportunity assessment activities for the food distribution business. He will also provide thought leadership and financial guidance on both broad strategic initiatives and day-to-day opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce company operating expenses.

“Our finance department is critical to the success of the company’s mission to deliver the ingredients for a better life,” said Jason Monaco, SpartanNash executive vice president and CFO. “(Greg’s) experience leading high-performing teams and developing strategies to improve financial performance and growth will help us achieve our earnings targets and contribute to SpartanNash’s operational excellence.”

Crane, a registered CPA, has more than 15 years of financial and operational experience. He most recently served as the CFO for GHSP Inc, a supplier of mechanical and electromechanical systems to the automotive, transportation, and appliance industries.

Crane, who resides in Michigan, holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and an undergraduate degree in finance and accounting from Miami University.  

South Bend-based Martin’s Super Markets was acquired by SpartanNash in a deal announced in November 2018 and closed in January 2019.

In addition to Martin’s, SpartanNash operates a total of 145 supermarkets, under other brands including Family Fare, D&W Fresh Market, VG’s Grocery and Dan’s Supermarket. The company employs more than 19,000 people.
