CHESTERTON – The Little Calumet East Branch watershed group will hold a day of leisure and learning on the river. It is a free event at Brummitt Elementary School at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.

There will be a guided tour through the Shirley Heinze Land Trust Wetlands Preserve, a float down the Little Calumet River, an aquatic bug hunt, an interactive model watershed and information on the Emerald Ash Borer beetle.

The Little Calumet East Branch begins in unincorporated LaPorte County and flows west through unincorporated Porter County, Burns Harbor, Chesterton, Porter and Portage. It drains nearly 50,000 acres of land.
