CHESTERTON – The first meeting of the Little Calumet River East Branch Watershed Group will be held from 1-3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at the Westchester Public Library.

The meeting is the first step of developing a watershed management plan to protect and improve the river which flows into Lake Michigan. The meeting has been organized by Save the Dunes Water Program director Jennifer Birchfield.

The East Branch of the Little Calumet River begins in unincorporated LaPorte County and flows west through unincorporated Porter County, the towns of Burns Harbor, Chesterton, Porter, and Ogden Dunes. It drains nearly 50,000 acres of forest, agriculture and developed lands.

For more information, contact Birchfield at water@savedunes.org.
