MUNSTER – As many as 50 jobs could come to Munster by the end of 2014 when meat producer Land O’Frost completes its move from Lansing, Ill.

The plant announced plans to invest $6.4 million to build a company headquarters in Munster. The 25,000-square-foot building will be on three acres. The location has not been announced.

Land O’Frost was founded in 1958 by the VanEekeren family and is the nation’s third largest producer of lunchmeats and specialty sausage.

The company has been working with Munster officials since October on the move, which includes $2 million in tax increment financing and $750,000 from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. for tax credits.

Land O’Frost has production plants in Illinois, Kentucky, Arkansas and Nebraska.
