Huhtamaki will upgrade its Hammond plant

HAMMOND – A Finnish company, Huhtamaki Inc., will invest $8.5 million in its Hammond operation to beef up production for its recycled paper products. When the project is completed, it will add a dozen jobs by 2014.

Huhtamaki provides consumer and specialty packaging products to clients around the world. Its Hammond plant has 115 employees who manufacture products under the brand name Chinet.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. is providing $115,000 in tax credits to the company, although the credits can be used only when Hoosiers are hired.

Huhtamaki has been in business in Hammond since 1947.
