SOUTH BEND – A recently completed survey by Gibson looking at 2012 benefits benchmarks shows employers are moving to consumer driven health plans. The company said the economy and cost of health care are significant attributors and the result is a drop in the relative value of health plans.

The move to consumer driven health plans helps employees become more aware of the cost of medical services who pick up more of the up-font costs through higher out-of-pocket maximums. According to the Gibson survey, 2012 medical costs for a typical family of four are estimated to be $20,728, an increase of 6.9 percent over 2011.

More than 250 companies in the state participated in the survey which represents 117,768 employees and $.13 billion in healthcare dollars.
