Freeman-Wilson named to EPA committee

GARY – Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson has been appointed to serve on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Local Government Advisory Committee by EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson.

“I am truly honored to receive this appointment because it represents another opportunity for the needs of the City of Gary to be heard at the national level,” said Freeman-Wilson.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s  Local Government Advisory Committee is  chartered under the Federal Advisory Committee Act  to provide advice that assists EPA in developing a stronger partnership with local governments and building state and local capacity to deliver environmental services and programs.

As a member of the Local Government Advisory Committee, Freeman-Wilson will be able to provide recommendations to the EPA Administrator on a broad range of topics, including regulatory innovation and reform, environmental protection tools, pollution prevention, new technologies, performance measurement, and appropriate roles of the various governmental levels in efficient and coordinated environmental management.
