GARY — During scheduled Fridays from Feb. 6 – April 10, Northwest Indiana families and individuals earning less than $50,000 will be able to take advantage of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. Sponsored by the IU Northwest School of Business and Economics, Northwest Indiana Community Action, and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the program provides free electronic tax filing of federal and state income tax returns.

The tax services will be provided by business and accounting students at IU Northwest, who are trained by faculty members and IRS representatives to prepare the tax returns. For more than 30 years, students of IU Northwest’s AACSB-accredited School of Business have received practical, hands-on experience in tax preparation and customer service, while providing free tax-preparation services to Northwest Indiana families.

VITA appointments will be taken on scheduled Fridays from 5 until 8 p.m. in the Dunes Medical/Professional Building, Room 1103. For more information or to make an appointment, contact Femi in the School of Business and Economics (Dunes Medical Professional Building, Room 1103) or by phone at (219) 980-6552.
