GARY – Allegiant has announced it is suspending passenger service from Gary/Chicago International Airport for six weeks between Sept. 6 and Oct. 18.

The suspension of service affects all airports where Allegiant flies.

Steve Landry, interim director of Gary Airport, said that with the start of school and the arrival of cooler weather, reservations had sagged for flights out of Gary Airport that the airline decided to suspend its service for six weeks.

Other airports affected by Allegiant’s decision are Appleton/Green Bay, Wis.; Duluth, Minn., and Orlando.

Landry said that for the first six months of the year, 5,000 passengers flew from Gary to Orlando, Fla.
