The Hobart Chamber of Commerce announced the retirement of director Jay Harrigan effective in October.
A lifelong Hobart resident, Harrigan is moving to Florida for retirement.
“I have tried to serve the city of Hobart in various ways over the years, and this was a great final opportunity before moving on to the next chapter of my life,” Harrigan said in a press release. “I have been truly blessed and thank everyone that I have met and worked with in and around Hobart.”
Harrigan has served in many community roles. His past positions include Hobart Chamber of Commerce board member, Hobart Kiwanis president, Maria Reiner Center board member, Hobart Jaycee president, YMCA board member and board of zoning appeals member. He is a graduate of Indiana University Northwest, having earned a bachelor’s degree in business.
“Born and raised here, I have spent 59 of my 63 years living in Hobart,” Harrigan said. “Even while living elsewhere, my heart was still here, as it will continue to remain.”
Harrigan worked in the real estate business for over 40 years in Hobart. The business enabled him to see and become familiar with the city and its surrounding communities.
“I encourage everyone to step up and help to make your community stronger,” Harrigan said. “We are all in this together.”
