Valparaiso University was named to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Transfer Honor Roll for the fifth consecutive year.

The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Roll recognizes the most transfer-friendly schools in the nation. The classification is determined by admission practice, cost of attendance, campus life and recruitment practices.

“Transfer students are valuable members of our campus community because they bring diverse experiences and meaningful perspectives to Valpo,” said Melissa Rogers, associate director of transfer admission, in a press release. “This honor recognizes the support and transfer-friendly pathways that Valparaiso University provides to community college transfer students.”

Students transfer from both two-year and four-year institutions. They are traditional college-age students, non-traditional and military students. Valparaiso University operates a transfer admission team, provides academic advising to prospective students and offers scholarships.

Creating new pathways to higher education is one of the goals of the university’s Uplift Valpo strategic plan. About 150 students transfer to Valparaiso University a year. Roughly 30% of the university's students enter as transfers.

Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society that recognizes the academic achievements of students at associate degree-granting colleges. The society has over 3.5 million members and about 1,300 chapters in 11 nations.

Valparaiso University serves about 3,000 students. The university offers over 70 undergraduate programs and over 20 degree and certificate programs in its graduate school and continuing education. Valparaiso University was founded in 1859.
