New York-based Bion Environmental Technologies is set to start a demonstration of its livestock waste treatment technology at its Fair Oaks facility.
The system in Jasper County will demonstrate Bion's core ammonia recovery technology on a commercial scale.
“We are eager for startup at Fair Oaks, so that we can … move forward with project development and financing, and continue building relationships with strategic partners in the beef and food services industries,” said Bill O'Neill, Bion's CEO, in a press release. “We look forward to a grand opening in the next few weeks, once the system has reached steady state.”
The system will operate in “startup mode” for about a week and then begin to process manure after methane has been extracted. Bion officials say it will take three to four weeks for operations to become steady. It will take another four to 12 weeks for retrievable data required to support their economic models.
That data will be used to finalize designs of a larger system. Financing and permitting will come next to support the company's model for sustainable beef projects.
Bion wants to reduce the environmental impact of large-scale livestock production with its Gen3Tech. It also is seeking a USDA certified sustainable brand.
