MERRILLVILLE – Methodist Hospitals has unveiled its new $1.5 million Surgical Navigation Suite. Through GPS and specially adapted computer instruments, surgeons will be able to more precisely perform procedures on orthopedic, spinal and neurological patients.
The introduction of the system concludes several years of planning and months of construction and training, said Dr. Elian Shepherd, the medical director of Methodist’s Spine Care Center.
Shepherd said the system allows surgeons to be more precise in their cuts and the insertion of screws in orthopedic surgery.
