SOUTH BEND – The South Bend Redevelopment Commission has approved an agreement that will convert the former Gates Automotive Campus in downtown into a Veteran’s Administration clinic.
The agreement calls for the city to pay $1.9 million for 13 parcels of property and $1.4 million to prepare the building and grounds for the VA. Over the next five years, the city expects to recoup between $1.7 million.
Ambulatory Care Services will pay $280,000 a year to lease the building. It has operated a VA clinic in South Bend for eight years.
The downtown clinic is expected to open in March.
