SOUTH BEND – Memorial Health System of South Bend has put its plans to expand in Porter County on hold. Memorial has sold land where it planned to build a 100-bed, 275,000-square-foot hospital on six acres at Indiana 49 and Burlington Beach Road between Chesterton and Valparaiso.

            The land was sold to Community Healthcare System of Munster, which plans to build a medical facility affiliated with its St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart.

            Memorial still owns 53 acres at the site, but expansion plans there are on hold.
