World Refugee Day set in South Bend

SOUTH BEND – Global Spectrum, operators of the Century Center, has announced American Red Cross – World Refugee Day 2013 on the Gridiron in Downtown South Bend.

Established by the United Nations, World Refugee Day recognizes the courage, strength and determination of men, women, and children forced to flee their homes under the threat of persecution, conflict and violence. This event will celebrate World Refugee Day, draw attention to the plight of refugees, celebrate their courage and renew commitment to respond to refugee needs.

The event is set for 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20, and include live performances, a welcome speech by Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Anton Murra, director of International Refugee Program, stories by refugees and community members, as well as volunteer appreciation.
