WEST LAFAYETTE – Purdue University has extended an invitation to emergency responders, government leaders and the public to take part in a conference to better understand communication, transportation, energy and distribution issues during a natural disaster.

The Network Resilience Conference is 1:30-5:30 p.m. (EST) Monday, April 7, in the Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, Room 121. The conference is free.

“During the conference we will hear from some of the top experts who are studying natural disaster issues related to transportation, civil resources and distribution, but we also want to hear from those who have lived through floods, tornadoes and other disasters,” said Daniel Aldrich, assistant professor of political science.

Presenters are Tatsuki Shigeo, professor from Doshisha University who has studied the response to the 1995 Kyoto earthquake; Janki Andharia, director of Jamsetji Tata Centre for International Disaster Management at Mumbai, India; Adam Pel, research associate at Delft University of Technology at Delft, Netherlands; and Brigadier Gen. Margaret Washburn of the Indiana National Guard who oversaw response to the 2008 floods in southern Indiana.
