MUNSTER – American Savings, FSB has announced the appointment of Michael J. Purcell to its board of directors. He is the third generation of the Purcell family to be involved in the Indiana banking community.

His grandfather, Dr. Joseph Abner Abel, one of the top physicians in South Bend, was also the owner and president of Western State Bank in South Bend from 1930 to 1956. Purcell’s father, James F. Purcell, a retired NIPSCO senior executive and director, was a long-time investor of the Bank of Indiana in Merrillville, which was sold to Bank One Corporation in 1983.

“Our family has lived and worked in Northwest Indiana since 1920 and over the years has been involved with some of Indiana’s best community banks. I’m honored to be a director of American Savings, FSB and thrilled to be associated with such a well-managed, local community bank,” said Purcell.

He is president and owner of Perfection Cleaning in Munster. Purcell founded the company in 2003 as a commercial cleaning and supplies company specializing in servicing medical offices, dental offices, banks and office buildings, as well as construction site clean-ups.
