SOUTH BEND – The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians has announced it wants to develop 164 acres of land it has acquired just southwest of downtown South Bend. The development would include 44 private housing units, a health center for the tribe, a multi-purpose center and a casino.

The Pokagon Band already operates Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, Mich., and a small casino in Hartford, Mich. This would be the tribe’s first casino in Indiana, providing it can reach an agreement with the legislature for a compact. That compact would funnel a portion of casino profits to the state.
