National Lakeshore has $63 million impact

PORTER – Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore has a $63 million impact in the region in 2010, according to information compiled by the National Park Service.

That is the amount of money visitors to the park spent in the region. The National Park Service said the spending supported 658 jobs.

In 2010, the park has 2.1 million visitors with more than 24,000 of them overnight stays. Most of the jobs were in lodging, food and beverage service.

The National Park Service said its 394 parks generated $12 billion I spending by 281 million visitors in 2010.
