GRIFFITH – St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago has been named Hospital of the Year by Lake Area United Way for its outstanding contributions in the 2010-11 community campaign. This was the third straight year the hospital has received the recognition.
LAUW honored the medical, nursing and administration and support staff at St. Catherine for leading all area hospitals with employee giving of $24,905. In addition, the Community Foundation contributed $40,000.
Accepting the award was JoAnn Birdzell, CEO; Craig Bolda, chief operating officer; and Ron Jerzyk, director of human resources.
“St. Catherine Hospital has always been a good friend and community partner to United Way,” said Lou Martinez, LAUW president.
“Our employees have historically embraced the efforts of Lake Area United Way and have always been very generous with their support,” said Birdzell. “I am very proud of our employees and this award will be prominently displayed for all to see.”
