Horseshoe Hammond Casino launched its sports betting site The Book on Sept. 4.
Casino representatives were joined by Dan Nita, regional president of Caesars Entertainment, owner of the Hammond casino; Sara Tait, executive director of the Indiana Gaming Commission; Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr.; and former Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte.
The Book offers wagering on a variety of wagering on popular American sports, including football, basketball, baseball and hockey.
Horseshoe Hammond’s “The Book” is one of seven Caesars Entertainment sports books opening in September around Indiana. Other locations include: Harrah’s Hoosier Park, Horseshoe Southern Indiana, Indiana Grand, Winner’s Circle Clarksville, Winner’s Circle Indianapolis and Winner’s Circle New Haven.
Ameristar Casino in East Chicago and the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City are the other Northwest Indiana casinos that received state permission to accept wagers on sports.
Indiana lawmakers approved a law legalizing sports betting in April, which Gov. Eric Holcomb signed in May. In-person sports betting launched around Sept. 1 and can only be done at sportsbooks at Indiana casinos, racinos and off-track betting sites.
Online betting also is part of the law signed by Holcomb but mobile apps and licensing still require testing, which means legalized online betting in Indiana may require additional time to launch, according to Legalsportsreport.com. Horseshoe Hammond said it also will offer mobile sports betting through the Caesars Sports app once legal online wagering is permitted in Indiana.
