Hoosiers asked for Memorial Day moment of silence

Republican State Sen. Jim Merritt asks all Hoosiers to pause for a moment of silence at 3 p.m. Monday, Memorial Day, to show appreciation for those who have laid down their lives for freedom.

In December of 2000 Congress approved the “National Moment of Remembrance” resolution to help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day. Merritt said the act asks all Hoosier to share a moment of reflection just as meaningful as that first observance without having to leave home.

“As we participate in the varied and wonderful celebrations of this Memorial Day,” said Merritt, “let us remember those who continue to make them all possible by giving the ultimate sacrifice. In their memory, we say thank you and God bless you.”
