Franciscan Physician Network welcomes new doctors

Franciscan HealthNew physicians recently joined Franciscan Physician Network.

  • Dr. Mazen Alakhras specializes in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. He will see patients in Lafayette and at Franciscan Physician Network's Specialty Clinic in Crawfordsville and Franciscan Health Rensselaer's Specialty in Rensselaer. Alakhras received his medical degree from Tishreen University Medical School in Syria. He completed his internal medicine residency at Coney Island Hospital in New York. He completed a pulmonary medicine fellowship at the State University of New York at Coney Island Hospital in New York. He also completed a critical care fellowship at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn. He is board certified in critical care medicine, pulmonary medicine and internal medicine.
  • Dr. E. Gracie Michels is an obstetrician and gynecologist who will see patients at Franciscan Physician Network Rensselaer Medical Center. Michels received her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She completed her residency at Indiana University School of Medicine. Michels is a junior fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Dr. Marianne Nelson will see patients at Franciscan Physician Network Rensselaer Medical Center in Rensselaer. Nelson received her medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She serves as the health officer for the Jasper County Health Department. Nelson also serves as the collaborating physician with Franciscan Health Rensselaer's rural clinics in Brook and Wheatfield. Nelson is board-certified in family medicine.
