There was no shortage of volunteers for the United Way’s annual Day of Caring event Aug. 5.

A total of 1,074 volunteers took part in 70 projects, which assisted numerous nonprofit organizations throughout the Region.

“We are so grateful to our community,” said Anicia Kosky, chief impact officer of United Way of Northwest Indiana. “Our nonprofit partners work so hard and couldn’t do what they do without volunteers.”

Volunteers worked on projects in Lake, Porter, Starke and LaPorte counties. More than 40 nonprofits benefited, the United Way said.

Projects included landscaping, painting, building and collection drives. Volunteers were treated to a free breakfast rally in Valparaiso presented by Strack and Van Til Food Market.

United Way of Northwest Indiana’s regional volunteer center offers volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Additional information on volunteer projects is available through the organization’s website.
