Walk Disabled American VeteransHIGHLAND – The members of DAV Chapter #17 will host the annual Walk for the DAV on Saturday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Wicker Park in Highland, IN. The DAV is a non-profit organization dedicated to a single purpose: empowering the USA military service veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. All proceeds from the Walk go directly to help local veterans.

Along the walk route will be the Indiana Patriot Guard’s flag display coupled with Indiana’s Fallen Heroes, remembering the 220 fallen military heroes from our state that have died in the line of combat during the past 20 years. Also at the event will be restored military vehicles from WWII and the Korean War from the Southern Lake Michigan Military Preservation Association, along with a pavilion of local military artifacts from the Tri-Town Safety Village’s Veterans Museum, thanks to local history teacher, Tom Clark.

Lunch will be provided by medical technologies firm, Stryker Corporation, and donations are welcome. Especially to serve our veteran community, on-site will be Orthopedic & Balance Therapy Specialists of Crown Point and Highland, the US Veterans Center and the Gary Area Vet Center. Military mementos available for sale will include: hand-crafted wooden American flags and military specialty items, including hats, pins, flags and t-shirts.

Make your morning by joining your local disabled veterans and the rest of our community—event is child-friendly. The donation to walk in the event is $20.00 for an adult participant and $15.00 for a student or child, t-shirt is included. Participants may register at http://dav17in.com/dav-walk
