Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians elects Matthew Wesaw as chairman

DOWAGIAC, Mich.  – Matthew Wesaw was elected chairman of the tribal council of The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians.

Other elected board positions include Kelly Curran, secretary; Colin Wesaw, elders representative and Gary Morseau as member-at-large.

Wesaw also will serve as chairman and CEO of the Pokagon Gaming Authority Board, which oversees the Band’s casino properties including Four Winds’ Michigan casinos in New Buffalo, Hartford and Dowagiac and the Four Winds Indiana casino in South Bend.

Wesaw previously was elected chairman in 2008 and 2012. Wesaw announced his retirement from the council in 2013 to become the executive director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.

Other members of the 11-member tribal council who were not up for re-election included Bob Moody, vice chairman, and members-at-large Steve Winchester, Becky Price, Andy Jackson and Alex Wesaw.
