INDIANAPOLIS – Gov. Mitch Daniels has named Bruce Lemmon as Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Correction. He replaces Ed Buss, who left the post to take over as head of the Florida Department of Corrections.

Lemmon has been with the DOC since 1976. He was most recently superintendent of the Putnamville Correctional Facility in Greencastle and before that was superintendent at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle.

“Indiana’s corrections system is now nationally recognized so Bruce has a tall order to continue improving it. But he’s been a big part of the turnaround and has proven himself ready for the job,” said Daniels.

The DOC has 21 adult prisons, six juvenile facilities, nine parole districts and 74 community corrections counties. It employs 7,800 people and is responsible for 28,000 offenders.
