Franciscan Health Earns Stellar Medicare RatingsLAFAYETTE – Franciscan Health Lafayette East was recently named as a 5 Star Hospital facility by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid in its annual quality survey posted on CMS' Hospital Compare website.

The hospital was among only 15 hospitals from Indiana that made the complete list of 337 hospitals from across the United States. Franciscan Health Mooresville and Franciscan Health Carmel also received 5 Star ratings.

According to CMS and Hospital Compare, the goal of the star ratings is to provide patients and consumers with information that will inform them about multiple dimensions of quality in a single measure.

The star ratings in this cycle for acute care hospitals rely on data from 2013 to 2017. While much of the data is required to be reported, it also factors in data from patient surveys from organizations such as Press Ganey. There are seven main categories of data: Outcomes-Mortality; Outcomes-Safety; Outcomes-Readmission; Patient Experience; Process-Effectiveness and Timeliness; and Efficiency-Imaging.

“We are extremely proud of the work all of our employees, physicians, medical staff members and volunteers do to provide care in the communities we are privileged to serve,” said Albert Tomchaney, MD, chief medical officer for the Franciscan Health system. “While three of our facilities have received this award, we all have been working together as a healthcare system to provide quality, cost-effective healthcare in our local settings.”

In Western Indiana, Franciscan Health Crawfordsville improved their ratings to 4 Stars and Franciscan Health Rensselaer improved their ratings to 3 Stars.
