Northwest Indiana Business News LogoSOUTH LAKE COUNTY – The Crown Point Community Foundation awarded $94,752.40 in 27 community grants during its September 1st grant cycle. Grantees ranged from Pets N Vets program for US Military veterans to “Firefighters in the Classroom” program for K-5 students, all enriching the lives of South Lake County.

Unrestricted community grants are made possible by donors who create funds to support South Lake County community causes and entrust the CPCF to allocate those funds to the greatest need.

Below are the recipients of the September 1st grant cycle:

American Legion Post #101 Lowell – $5,000
Pay for labor and materials to reroof the main building of the Post

Autism Society of Indiana – $2,550
Conduct three workshops in the Crown Point area for individuals with autism to help find them jobs

Best Buddies Indiana – $1,000
Support the Best Buddies program at CPHS

Campagna Academy, Inc. – $2,173
Purchase/install signage to direct visitors to various buildings

CP RoboDogs Sponsors – $5,000
Fund entry fee and material for CPHS RoboDogs to participate in 2018 FIRST program

CP Volunteer Fire Dept. – $6,000
Assist in implementing the “Firefighters in the Classroom” program for K-5 students

CPCSC/ Birth to School Program – $3,722
Materials for Birth to School program for families at MacArthur Elementary School

CPCSC/Jerry Ross Elementary School – $3,000
Help fund a robotics team at Jerry Ross Elementary School

CPCSC/Taft Middle School – $2,500
Help offset field trip costs to the Challenger Learning Center

Dunes Dog Training Club, Inc. – $1,500
Help support the Pets N Vets program for US Military veterans

First United Methodist Church – $1,000
Help economically disadvantaged students through a program called “Operation Inspire”

Food Bank of NWI, Inc. – $1,000
Support the Food Bank to serve more people in south Lake County

GAP Food Pantry – $2,850
Replace severely worn out carpet with floor tile at the GAP Food Pantry location

Girls on the Run of NWI – $2,500
Provide financial assistance in the form of reduced program fees to participants in South Lake County for the spring 2018 season

Habitat for Humanity of NWI – $5,000
Replace all exterior doors for the ReStore

Hanover Jr Wildcat Football, Inc. – $3,576.40 Jointly Funded
Help offset the cost of reconditioning helmets

Knights of Columbus St. Elizabeth Seton Council 7473 – $2,000
Cover the cost of refurbishing bikes for needy families in South Lake County

Lake Region Christian Assembly – $8,255
Cover the cost of new equipment for the summer daycamp program

LOFS Volunteer Fire Dept. – $7,500 Match
Purchase a Lucas 3.0 chest compression system device

Old Sheriff’s House Foundation – $2,450
Funding to replace porch columns on the Old Sheriff’s House

St. Jude House – $9,581
Purchase 3 pieces of playground equipment, border containment system and rubber mulch for use by children residing in the shelter

St. Matthias Church – $4,000
Financial support for the food pantry

The Growing Piece – $3,300
Provide adults with Autism and/or Intellectual Disabilities appropriate technology to prepare them to work in the community

The Welcome Network – $1,700
Enhance awareness and utilize legal services to residents of South Lake County with a focus on victims of crime and domestic violence

Town of Winfield – $4,800
Purchase equipment to be used at the Winfield Harvest Fest and all future events in the community

Trinity Lutheran Church and School – $2,545
Fencing for a playground specifically geared towards younger community residents

Old Homestead Preservation Society, Inc. – $250 Pro Active Grant
Help with immediate repair costs for replacing the porch at the Wellington Clark Homestead to correct safety issues
