Northwest Indiana Business News LogoMERRILLVILLE – “Caring” is one of five core values at Centier Bank, and since Hurricanes Harvey, Maria, and Irma have devastated regions of the southern United States and Puerto Rico, Center Bank associates and clients have stepped up to join the relief efforts.

To help support the relief efforts of the American Red Cross in those recovering regions, Centier Bank associates have participated in “Dress Casual for Charity” days, along with asking clients for donations to help those living in affected areas. On Friday, November 17, 2017, Centier Bank donated a total of $10,000 to the American Red Cross as a result of these fundraising efforts.

“The Red Cross would like to thank Centier Bank, its associates, and their clients in their fundraising efforts to support our hurricane relief efforts,” said Kristin Marlow-Kellemen, executive director for the American Red Cross – Northwest Indiana Chapter. “Donations like these have helped us to provide 1.3 million overnight stays in emergency shelters, served more than 10.5 million meals and snacks, distributed more than 6 million emergency relief items like diapers, bug spray, cleaning supplies, coolers, and comfort kits containing deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other hygiene items. We know there is still a great deal of work ahead of us, and we will continue to stand with the individuals and families impacted, for as long as it takes.”

The associate-generated idea to raise funds for hurricane relief spread throughout the organization’s nearly 60 branches, with over $9,000 raised through associate and client contributions. Centier’s Board of Directors chose to supplement the donation, raising it to a full $10,000.

“It is humbling to witness how the Centier family rallied is this time of need. Our employees did a wonderful job of taking the lead with this great idea to support the victims of the hurricanes. I feel that this genuine gesture truly embodies the caring nature of our culture here at Centier,” explained Anthony Contrucci, Vice President of Community Relations and Business Development at Centier Bank. “I’m proud to be on a team with people who are making a positive impact on the communities that we serve as well as those communities in need.”

Contrucci and Karla Ortegon from Centier Bank’s Human Resource Development division, were on hand, on behalf of the Centier team, to present the donation to Marlow-Kelleman and St. Mary Medical Center CEO Janice Ryba, a member of the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross – Northwest Indiana Chapter.

“It is no surprise to me that our associates and clients came out in full force to support the communities impacted by the hurricanes,” said Mike Schrage, President and CEO of Centier Bank. “The entire Centier family is dedicated to providing care and support to those in need; though we are an Indiana bank, I am proud to say that our reach extends well beyond the State and the communities we serve in times like these.”
