Annual Stroke Diabetes Awareness FairMUNSTER – Community Hospital, Munster and St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago invite Northwest Indiana residents to attend their annual Stroke and Diabetes Awareness Fair, to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 at The Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Rd., Munster. The fair will promote disease prevention through healthy living and educate the public about the risk factors of stroke.

This free public event will feature a variety of screenings, education and giveaways in addition to an elite lineup of credentialed guest speakers. The day’s agenda will include Systems of Stroke Care presented by Demetrius Lopes, MD, surgical director of the Neuroendovascular Program at Community Hospital and director of the Rush Center for Neuroendovascular Surgery; Updates in Stroke Treatment presented by Tareq Kass-Hout, MD, interventional neurologist at Community Hospital and Rush University Medical Center; Taking Steps to Prevent Type 2 Diabetes presented by Adil Alavi, MD, medical director of the Diabetes Center at Community Hospital; Hyperacute and Acute Stroke Care presented by Andrea DeLeo, DO, medical director of the Stroke Center at St. Catherine Hospital; Stroke Basics presented by Shaila Gupta, DO, medical director of the Diabetes Center at Community Hospital and St. Catherine Hospital; Why Did I Have a Stroke presented by Ender Akan, MD, medical director of the Stroke Center at Community Hospital; and Life After Stroke – Recovery and Rehabilitation presented by Jacob Virgo, PT, DPT, NCS, clinical specialist at Community Hospital.
