NWIBQ News LogoWESTVILLE –The Purdue University Northwest Sinai Forum will continue its 64th season with author and journalist Jason L. Riley at 4 p.m. CDT, Sunday, Sept. 24 in the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex on the PNW Westville Campus.

The complex is located at 1401 S. US 421. The doors open at 3 p.m.

Forum Executive Director Leslie Plesac will host the series that presents guest speakers who explore the compelling issues of today, providing audience members a unique opportunity to hear from experts in their fields about topics in the news and to pose face-to-face questions in a town-hall style setting.

Have government efforts meant to help, failed?

A senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and a columnist for the “Wall Street Journal,” Riley’s program, “The State Against Blacks”, will address his thesis that government efforts to help the black underclass – efforts which began in earnest in the 1960s with the War on Poverty and various Great Society programs – have a poor track record.

A Fox news commentator for more than a decade, Riley will discuss why some of the socio-economic gains that occurred among blacks in the first half of the 20th century stalled or were reversed in the second half, even as civil rights legislation passed and black political clout grew.

An accomplished author

Riley wrote the books “Let Them In,” which argues for a more free-market focused U.S. immigration policy; “Please Stop Helping Us” about government efforts to help the black underclass and “False Black Power?” an assessment of race relations in the Obama era. A book signing will follow the program.
